On what platform does this payment work?
Whatsapp going to take advantage of UPI (Unified Payment Interface) which was introduced by the Indian Government last year. Most of the other payment apps like BHIM, PhonePe, Google Tez are working on this interface. Now, Whatsapp is planning to work with this interface which could be more easier to work and trust.
Not only with UPI, it also includes the support of few Indian banks like Axis, HDFC, SBI, ICICI, Andhra Bank and few other banks.
What does it require?
It doesn’t require anything. You just need to verify your phone number and select your bank Account. Remember, the number which you have given should be the same number which you have given to your bank account. To make payments through WhatsApp, the other end user should also have this payment option on their WhatsApp.
Rumor is, this option is going to be live by the first quarter of 2018. So, we are not so far to have this on our WhatsApp.
After Demonitaisation in India, Companies are pushing heavily towards Digital Payment and WhatsApp payment option is going to be the best player compared to the other payment apps, because most of the mobile users having WhatsApp on their handset. As we know Indian government is encouraging cashless transactions, this could be helpful to achieve the Indian Government dream in no time.
